„Nem írom pennával, Fekete téntával, De szablyám élivel, Ellenség vérivel, Az én örök híremet.” Zrínyi Miklós (1620–1664) költő és hadvezér, a 17. század törökellenes harcainak ikonikus alakja, akinek Szigeti veszedelem című eposzának kezdő szavai szállóigévé váltak. Az azóta eltelt évszázadok azonban már más eszközöket biztosítanak számunkra, amikor múltunk irodalmi és történelmi emlékeinek méltó megörökítésére törekszünk.

Ezt a kulturális közeget és nemes feladatot szem előtt tartva döntött úgy 2016-ban az akkor még Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Bölcsészettudományi Kutatóközpont [ma HUN-REN Bölcsészettudományi Kutatóközpont] vezetősége, hogy a teljes kutatási-közművelődési szféra kiadóival fenntartott kapcsolataira alapozva kezdeményező szerepet vállal a bölcsész- és társadalomtudományi diszciplínák könyvtermésének terjesztésében, erejéhez és lehetőségeihez képest egy helyre, a Penna Bölcsész Könyvesboltba gyűjti az akadémiai, egyetemi és múzeumi kiadványok széles választékát.

Miklós Zrínyi (1620–1664) was a poet and general, an iconic figure of the 17th century anti-Turkish warfare, whose opening words of his epic poem The Peril of Sziget became legendary. However, the centuries that have passed since then have allowed for the development of new tools in the quest to preserve the literary and historical memory of our past.

In consideration of the above mentioned cultural context and noble mission, the board of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ Research Centre for the Humanities [now HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities] decided in 2016 to take a proactive role in the dissemination of books in the humanities and social science disciplines. This decision was based on the Research Centre’s established relations with publishers across the research and cultural spectrum. Furthermore, the Research Centre’s objective was to collect a comprehensive range of academic, university, and museum publications in a single repository, the Penna Humanities Bookstore.
