Establishment of a study group with focus on multipart music within the International Council for Traditional Music in 2009 was a consequence of dedicated research and noticeable publications about the topic by ethnomusicologists in various parts of Europe. I vividly remember several conversations with the founding Chair Ardian Ahmedaja throughout the 2000s concerning the name of the future study group, its mission statement and operational principles. Involvement in the foundation of three other ICTM Study Groups (Music and Minorities, Music and Dance in Southeastern Europe, Applied Ethnomusicology) provided me with necessary experiences and skills, and it was a pleasure for me to assisi this determined group of scholars on the way towards the fulfillment of their vision, which in turn enriched the ICTM Study Group structure with a valuable new member. The Executive Board of the ICTM confirmed the Study Group on Multipart Music at its 2009 meeting in Durban, South Africa. In 2015, the Study Group on Multipart Music is one of the twenty ICTM study groups and has excellent record of regular meetings and publications.
