Leírás és Paraméterek

This volume – which is part of a publishing project regarding the tax registers (tahrír defterleri) compiled under the reigns of Murád II and Mehmed the Conqueror (1421–1481) – contains the tax registers of three important regions in the Lower Danube area. The first two are summary or synoptic (icmal) tax registers of Nicopolis (1470s) and Vidin (1467–1468), and the third is a detailed (mufassal) tax register of Branicevo (1467–1468). These regions were the centers of the Ottoman Coastal fortification system on the Lower Danube. As the registers reveal, the process of the Ottoman conquest differed greatly írom region to region.
The book is one of the last works of the late Prof. Halil Inalcik (1916–2016), the renowned Turkish historian of the Ottoman Empire, who always maintained good relations to Hungarian researchers. With this publication we pay tribute to his memory.
