A Budapest területén ma látható számos római kori emlék közül kiemelkedik az Aquincumi Múzeum és a körülötte fekvő romterület, amely Magyarország egyik leglátogatottabb és legnagyobb, összefüggően helyreállított bemutatóhelye. Az Aquincumi Múzeum Régészeti Parkjába belépve a látogató figyelmét magára vonja egy tömegében kicsi, részleteiben azonban gondosan kidolgozott épület, amely jellegében és tartalmában eltér a tőle északra fekvő romkert látványosságaitól. A kis épület nem más, mint egy római kori városi lakóház modellje, amely 2012 óta – környezetével együtt – egyik gyöngyszeme a Régészeti Parknak. Megépítése mérföldkövet jelentett az aquincumi építészeti emlékek bemutatásának történetében. Az egykori város épületmaradványait többnyire az alapfalak konzervált állapotában láttató romkertben a római kori városi ház modelljének felépítésével és hiteles belső dekorációival, berendezésével Aquincum is csatlakozott a korunkban egyre divatosabb rekonstrukciós elvárásokhoz, amelyek lehetővé teszik a múlt teljes térbeli élményének átélését.

As a tourist destination frequented by visitors from all over the world, the Aquincum Museum and Archaeological Park is one of the most prominent Roman heritage sites in modern Budapest, and also one of the largest sites of monuments in Hungary. The first eye-catching attraction upon entering the Archaeological Park is a building of modest size, constructed to reproduce historical subtleties with remarkable precision. Erected north of the ruins, it stands apart from them both in terms of its appearance and its content: this small building is a reconstruction of a Roman urban residence, which has been a highlight of the Archaeological Park since 2012. It marks a milestone in the presentation of Roman architectural heritage in Aquincum. While the architectural remains in the Archaeological Park are presented as conserved wall stubs of the ancient settlement, this residence is recreated with authentic interior, furnishings, and decoration. In this way, it follows an increasingly popular trend of modern museum presentation and meets the new standards of reconstruction, offering a comprehensive experience of the past and a full immersion in Roman urban space.
